but在英語句子中可用作關系代詞，引導定語從句。但是需要特殊注意的是but雖然形式上是肯定的，意義上卻是否定的，這正是but和其它關系代詞（who，that，which等）的不同之處。

but引導定語從句的用法

1.There is no rule in English but has exceptions.英語中沒有無例外的規(guī)則。

2.There is no old habit but may be cured by a strong will-power.通過強大的意志力沒有改變不了的舊習慣。

3.With the introduction of the electronic computer,there is no complicated problem but can be solved in a few hours.由于引進了電子計算機，沒有在幾小時內解決不了的復雜問題。

4.There is no human being but errs.沒有不犯錯誤的人。

5.There is no mother but loves her children.沒有不愛自己孩子的母親。

6.There was no one present but knew the story already.在場的人都知道這個故事。
